Taking the Northern Line to Battersea
REO, the developers currently in possession of the Battersea Power Station site, have begun to ramp up their rhetoric once again about developments at the site.
REO (and both TfL and the Mayor's office) have long trumpeted the possibility of a privately funded extension to the Northern Line in the area, and the firm recently opened an exhibition (and updated their website) to include a little more detail about their development plans - including those relating to the transport infrastructure.
Currently, it appears that REO still believe that the best solution for the area would be an entirely new station within the power station itself, with an intermediary station at Nine Elms between there and Kennington. Studies undertaken by both the GLA and TfL over the last year, REO claim, back their assertion that the extension is vital to the area (as would be the Nine Elms station) and indicated that it is a viable proposition from both an economical and engineering perspective.
REO indicate that they will shortly begin the preperation of an application for the Transport and General Works Act that would be required to undertake the project, although no date is mentioned as to when they expect to submit this.
Beyond this the details get hazier once again, with the possibility of 2 minute intervals mentioned and capacity for 24,000 passengers an hour. The extension, REO claim, could be competed by 2015. A new pier to access river services is also planned for the location.
Interestingly, the project website includes several images that give some idea of the routing and layout REO seem to be indicating the extension may take. The web versions of these are relatively small, but some judicious photography at the real-world exhibition means we can include larger versions here (-> Bild oben!)
